What are local notifications?
A local notification is an alert an app schedules on the device itself: at a time, on a repeating schedule or, with permission, at a place. iOS delivers it even when the app is closed. Nothing is sent over the internet, so no server is needed.
More about Local notifications
Apps use them for reminders, timers, habit check-ins and due dates. Like push notifications, they need the person's permission, and they are built with Apple's UserNotifications framework. A notification can carry buttons, so someone can tick off a task or snooze it straight from the lock screen.
Local notifications with Borel
Ask for reminders in plain words, such as every morning at eight or the day before something, and Borel writes them in Swift with Apple's UserNotifications. The iPhone schedules each reminder itself, so it arrives on the lock screen on time.
