What is a database in an app?

A database is where an app keeps its data in an organised form, so it can save, find and change it quickly. On iPhone, data can live in a local database on the device, for example with Apple's SwiftData, or in a cloud database on a server, shared between devices and people.

More about Database

Local data works offline and stays on the phone, but it doesn't follow you to another device. Cloud data needs a backend, a connection and usually a sign-in, and in return it syncs and can be shared.

Database with Borel

Borel picks what fits your app: data that only lives on one phone stays on the device and needs no cloud, while accounts and data shared between people or devices go to the app's own cloud database, which Borel runs.
