What is an API key?
An API key is a secret string that identifies an app to an outside service, such as an AI model, a payment provider or a music service, so the service knows who is calling and whom to bill. Anyone who has the key can use the service as you.
More about API key
That's why a key should never be built into a mobile app, where it can be pulled out of the app's files. The safe pattern keeps the key on a server, and the app asks the server instead.
API key with Borel
Borel AI needs no key at all. For a service you name, such as Spotify, Stripe or Notion, you save its key under Tools › Keys, and Borel calls the service from its own server, so the key never goes into your app.
