Just for you

Make an iPhone app just for yourself

Yes, you can make an iPhone app just for yourself. Describe it to Borel in plain words, and Borel's AI writes it in Swift, builds it with Xcode on Borel's own Mac and runs it in your browser. Borel Companion then puts it on your iPhone with a free Apple ID, so you need no App Store, no Mac and no developer account.

How it works

From an idea to your home screen

  • 1

    Describe it

Write what you want in your own words: a habit tracker, a chores chart, a log for your plants. Borel plans the screens with you before it builds.

  • 2

    Watch it build

Borel writes the app in Swift and SwiftUI, builds it with Xcode on its own Mac and opens it in the iOS Simulator in your browser.

  • 3

    Put it on your iPhone

Borel Companion, free for Windows and Mac, installs it with your Apple ID: a cable the first time, then Wi-Fi.

Yours alone

Can I really make an app only I use?

You can. An app doesn't have to go to the App Store to be real. Apple lets anyone with an Apple ID put an app they made on their own iPhone, and that is the app Borel makes: native Swift code, compiled by Xcode, sitting on your home screen next to Apple's own apps. It opens without a browser, keeps its data on the phone, and uses the camera, Face ID and haptics the way any iPhone app does.

Most people who try this have an app in mind that almost exists. The habit tracker that counts the wrong things, the budget app with twenty screens when you need two. With Borel you describe the version you actually want, and you keep changing it until it fits. Personal apps has more ideas of what people make for themselves.

Ideas

What kind of app can I make for myself?

Anything you can describe that lives on your phone, or that keeps its data in Borel's cloud when you want it everywhere you sign in. A few that work well:

  • A habit or mood tracker

Tick off what matters to you, and see your week on a chart drawn with Swift Charts.

  • A home organiser

Chores, shopping lists and who does what, with reminders your iPhone schedules itself.

  • A collection log

Plants, records, wines or recipes, with photos from your camera or your library.

  • A tool for your work

A quote calculator, a site-visit checklist or a log of your hours, saved on the phone.

What you need

Do I need a Mac, the App Store or a developer account?

None of the three. Borel's own Mac does the part that needs a Mac, and a free Apple ID is enough to keep the app on your phone. Here is what each way of using your app takes:

Borel Companion

How does the app get onto my iPhone?

With Borel Companion, a small free app for Windows 10 or 11 and for Mac. You sign in with your Apple ID once, and your password stays on your computer. Then you plug in your iPhone, tap Trust, turn on Developer Mode in Settings, and the first install goes over the cable.

After that, your iPhone gets each new version over Wi-Fi whenever it's on the same network as your computer. A free Apple ID keeps up to 3 of your apps on the phone at a time, and Apple asks for apps installed this way to be signed again every 7 days. Companion does that for you while it runs, so your app keeps opening. The step-by-step version is on install your app without the App Store.

Yours to change

Can I change it later?

Whenever you like. Ask for a change in the chat, in the same plain words. Borel builds the new version, opens it in the simulator so you can try it, and sends it to your iPhone over Wi-Fi. Every version is saved, so you can go back to an earlier one in a click.

The code is yours as well. Download the SwiftUI project at any time; it opens in Xcode on a Mac if you ever want to take it further. And if the app turns out to be useful to other people too, you can publish it to the App Store from the same project.

Choose Borel if…

  • You want an app that does exactly what you need, and nothing else.
  • You'd rather describe it than learn to code.
  • You're on Windows, or on a Mac without Xcode set up.
  • You want a real native app on your home screen, not a web page.
  • You'd like to try it for free before deciding anything.
