iPhone screen sizes and resolutions

Every iPhone screen from the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone SE: the points apps lay out in, the pixels on the glass, the scale between them, and the App Store screenshot size each one maps to.

Points are what apps lay out in; pixels are the panel. Each model’s page lists the iPhones with the same screen, its safe area and its App Store screenshot size.

Points, pixels and scale

iPhone apps are laid out in points, not pixels. A point is a fixed amount of space on the screen, and the scale says how many pixels draw it: at @3x one point is three pixels across, at @2x two. That is why an iPhone 17 Pro and an iPhone 16 Plus, with different pixel counts, can still be compared in points: 402 against 430 points wide.

Design in points, export images at @3x (and @2x for the iPhone SE), and let SwiftUI place content inside each screen's safe area rather than measuring from the top edge.

Many iPhones, few screens

Apple reuses screens. The iPhone 18 Pro, 17 Pro, 17 and 16 Pro share 402 × 874 points; the iPhone 17e, 16e, 14, 13 and 12 share 390 × 844. So the eleven rows of this table cover thirty models, and each model's page lists the others with the same screen.

Dynamic Island, notch or Home button

The top of the screen comes in three kinds. The iPhone 14 Pro, the 14 Pro Max and every iPhone from the 15 on, except the 16e and 17e, have the Dynamic Island. Face ID phones without it have a notch. The iPhone SE has a status bar above the screen and a Home button below it. App Store Connect now groups screenshots by these kinds, and the required iPhone group is the 6.3-inch and 6.1-inch phones with the Dynamic Island.

Frequently asked questions

402 by 874 points at @3x, the same as the iPhone 17 and iPhone 16 Pro. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is 440 by 956 points.

Points are the units apps lay out in; pixels are the dots on the display. On an @3x iPhone each point is 3 by 3 pixels, on the @2x iPhone SE 2 by 2.

Among these, the iPhone 18 Pro Max and 17 Pro Max: 6.9 inches, 2868 by 1320 pixels, laid out in 440 by 956 points.

One screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display): 1206 by 2622 or 1179 by 2556 pixels in portrait.

Build one app for all of them

Borel writes your iPhone app in SwiftUI, which adapts to every screen in this table, and shows it on a live iPhone in your browser.
