How the iPhone SE compares

The iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) is the last iPhone with a Home button. Its 4.7-inch LCD is 1334 × 750 pixels at 326 ppi, and it is the only phone on this list at @2x: 375 × 667 points.

It has no notch, and its screen has square corners. At 667 points tall it is 177 points shorter than the 390 × 844 phones, so a screen that fits there can need scrolling here.

What designers need to know

  • Put the most important action high enough to be seen without scrolling: 667 points disappears fast once a navigation bar and a tab bar take their share.
  • There is no home indicator, so Borel's preview gives it no bottom safe area, and a 20 point status bar at the top.
  • Images at @2x are enough here; ship @3x too, because almost every other iPhone uses it.

App Store screenshots

Apple puts the iPhone SE in its iPhone with Home Button (medium display) group, which takes 750 × 1334 pixels in portrait. This group is optional: App Store Connect fills it with scaled copies of another group's screenshots when you skip it.

Build for this screen with Borel

Borel writes iPhone apps in Swift with SwiftUI, whose layouts follow the safe area of whichever iPhone they run on, so one app fits this screen and every other here. You try it in Apple's iOS Simulator in your browser, with no Mac needed.

The iPhone SE is one of the three phones in Borel's device picker, so you can see your app on its short screen before anyone else does.

Make an app that fits every iPhone

Describe it in plain English. Borel writes it in SwiftUI, runs it on a live iPhone in your browser, and publishes it to the App Store.
