Emergent alternative

An Emergent alternative for native iPhone apps

Emergent builds web and mobile apps, and its mobile apps are React Native with Expo. Borel is the alternative for an iPhone app written in native Swift: it builds with Xcode on its own Mac, shows each build in the iOS Simulator in your browser, and gives up to 30 free credits a month, 5 every day.

Emergent

Who is Emergent for?

Emergent is an AI builder for web applications, mobile apps and dashboards, with databases and APIs set up for you. It suits people who want one place to build across the web and phones.

Its store pipeline is built in too: no Mac for iOS, and the TestFlight upload done for you on a paid plan.

The iPhone question

Where does Emergent stop for an iPhone app?

What Emergent's mobile apps are made of is the difference. Its help centre says every mobile app is built with React Native and Expo, and you preview it on your phone in Expo Go.

The other is how far the free plan goes. Emergent's free plan comes with 10 credits a month, so a few rounds of changes can use it up before the app is where you want it.

Borel

What Borel does differently

  • Native Swift and SwiftUI

Borel writes the app in Apple's own language and framework, and Xcode compiles it on Borel's Mac.

  • Credits every day

5 free credits each day, up to 30 a month, so you can keep changing the app before you pay.

  • A real simulator, not Expo Go

Every build opens in the iOS Simulator in your browser, and Borel Companion installs the real app on your iPhone on Pro.

Switching

How to switch from Emergent to Borel

  • 1

    Start with the same idea

Paste the prompt you gave Emergent, or describe the app. Borel asks what matters, then plans the screens.

  • 2

    Use the free days

With 5 credits each day, try the app in the simulator and ask for changes until it feels right.

  • 3

    Go Pro when it's ready

Install it on your iPhone with Companion and publish to the App Store from the browser.

Choose Borel if…

  • You want your iPhone app in native Swift, not React Native.
  • You want more free credits while you shape the app.
  • You want to watch each build in a real iOS Simulator.

Frequently asked questions

It builds a new SwiftUI app from your prompt or description, rather than importing React Native code. The idea and the screens carry over.

Yes. Accounts, a cloud database, file storage and Borel AI are built into every app, with nothing to set up.

Only for the App Store, where Apple asks for its Developer Program, $99 a year. For apps on your own iPhone, a free Apple ID is enough with Borel Companion on Pro.

5 free credits a day, up to 30 a month on the free plan, and Pro from $20 a month with installs on your iPhone and App Store publishing.
