Make a habit tracker app for iPhone

Tell Borel which habits you want to count and how you want to see your week, and it writes a native habit tracker in Swift and SwiftUI: a tap to tick off today, streaks that forgive a missed day if you ask, a chart of the last weeks and an evening reminder. You try it in a live iPhone in your browser, then keep it on your own phone.

Updated

A prompt to start from
“A habit tracker: I add habits with an icon and how many days a week I aim for. Today's screen lists them with a big tick button, each habit shows its streak, and a chart shows the last 8 weeks. Remind me at 9 pm if something is still open.”

Screens

What a habit tracker app needs

The screens Borel builds from the prompt above. Ask for more, fewer or different ones.

  • Today

Every habit due today, with one large tick button each and the streak beside it.

  • Add a habit

A name, an icon, a colour and a weekly target, such as 3 days of 7.

  • Habit detail

A month calendar with ticked days filled in, the current and longest streak.

  • Progress

A bar chart of completed habits per week, drawn with Swift Charts.

Data

What it keeps

Borel writes these as Swift models. On the phone they work with no connection; in Borel's cloud they follow a signed-in person.

What to ask for next

Once the first version runs, ask for changes in the chat, in words like these.

  • “Let a missed day keep the streak if I tick the habit twice the next day.”
  • “Add a habit that counts amounts, like pages read or glasses of water, instead of a yes or no.”
  • “Show a year view like a grid of small squares, darker on days I did more.”
  • “Lock the app with Face ID.”

How to make it

From a prompt to your iPhone and the App Store

  • 1

    Describe it

Paste the prompt on this page into Borel, or write your own in plain words. Borel plans the screens with you before it builds.

  • 2

    Try it in your browser

Borel writes the app in Swift and SwiftUI, builds it with Xcode on its own Mac and opens it in a live iPhone simulator in your browser, free.

  • 3

    Put it on your iPhone

With Pro, Borel Companion for Windows or Mac installs it on your own iPhone with your Apple ID: a cable the first time, then Wi-Fi.

  • 4

    Publish it when it's ready

Pro publishes to the App Store from the same project. Apple's Developer Program, $99 a year, is the one thing you pay Apple.

Tick a few habits in the simulator first, then put the app on your iPhone and live with it for a week. That week shows what a screenshot can't: whether the tick button sits where your thumb lands, whether the 9 pm reminder comes at a sensible time, and whether a streak feels motivating or stressful. Ask Borel to change any of it and the new version arrives over Wi-Fi.

A habit tracker made for you can stay just yours. If friends ask for it, publish it to the App Store from the same project; In-app purchases can unlock more habits as a one-time Pro upgrade, with Apple's own paywall and Restore Purchases.

Building starts free, with 5 free credits a day, up to 30 a month, and the simulator in your browser costs nothing. Pro, from $20 a month, adds installs on your own iPhone through Borel Companion and publishing to the App Store.

Before you start

Good to know

  • There's no home screen widget, so you open the app to tick a habit.
  • It doesn't read steps or workouts from the Health app; habits are ticked by hand. Step counts can come from the iPhone's motion sensor instead.
  • Check-ins live on one phone unless you ask for accounts, which moves them to Borel's cloud so they follow you to an iPad.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Describe the habits and screens you want in plain words. Borel writes the Swift code, builds it with Xcode on its own Mac and shows it running in your browser.

Only if you want them to. Ask Borel for a rest day per week, or for a missed day to be forgiven, and it changes the streak rule.

Yes. The iPhone schedules the reminder itself at the time you pick, so it arrives even when the app is closed.

Yes, with Pro and Apple's Developer Program. Borel can add a one-time unlock or a subscription through Apple's In-App Purchase.

A first build takes a few minutes. Most of the time after that goes into small changes once you've used it for a few days.
